Things we should know 5. Sex is beautiful, so why can’t it be for everyone and between anyone?
Working through passages such as Genesis 1:26-28, 31; 2:20b-25, and 2 Corinthians 6:12-20, Pastor Richard answers the question about whether, since sex is beautiful, why can’t it be for everyone and between anyone? After refencing authors such as Tim Challies and Tim Keller, he concludes that sex is a gift from God meant to carry out the purposes of God and bring glory to God. Sex is not merely a natural appetite that we may satisfy as we please, but a good gift from God that is to be used only as he mandates. Sex is not merely an expression of affection, but an expression and display of covenant love fixed in Christ. Sex is not just a means of fulfillment, affection, or self-expression. Rather it but an opportunity to give ourselves to our spouse in covenant love and to God in thanksgiving. Its ultimate purpose is to bring glory to his name.
