Abraham and Isaac. The account of God testing Abraham by telling him to sacrifice Isaac on Mount Moriah is full of pointers to what comes later in the Bible, including the gospel of Jesus Christ. The provision of a lamb to take Isaac’s place speaks to our need of something to take ours; the fact that this sacrifice satisfies Gods demands is emphasised by the reiteration of God’s promises; and the outworking of how God will bless every nation through Abraham’s “seed” is mirrored as the same mountain being where Solomon built the temple and, so some scholoars say, the place where Jesus was crucified.
