The journey from comparative privilege to connection with the poor and disadvantaged.
From a backdrop of Jesus’ connection with the woman at the well, with the woman with a haemorrhage, and with lepers, Lesley Maxwell takes us on her journey from comparative privilege to connection with the poor and disadvantaged in Whyalla. This included chaplaincy at Whyalla Stuart High School, trips to the Nepabunna and the HOPE Collective. She is now a Community Chaplain with Mission Australia. Lesley, with the help of stories from volunteers, explains how Whyalla Baptist Church people are building relationships that might result in people being able to share the hope that they have. But in order to build those sorts of relationships we have to Pray, Be available to God so He can put us where He wants, Be willing to listen more than we speak, Be prepared to wonder if what you are doing is actually making a difference, and, Be willing to see people as God sees them – to see what they will become. She concludes with a list of things we can be involved in now if we respond to God’s heart fro us tojurney with others.
