About Us
Whyalla Baptist Church is a growing family made up of people from a broad cross section of ages, backgrounds and nationalities. We come together to worship God and we go out into the Whyalla community and beyond to serve him.
Our church is contemporary and charismatic – that is, we seek to be relevant to our community in our music style and preaching and we believe that God gives us gifts every day that we should use to serve him. We expect God to be present in our gatherings and we expect to see miracles and healings as we follow Jesus together.
We believe:
- God’s mission is to set our fragmented and broken world right, to redeem it through the reign of his Son, Jesus our Lord.
- God’s redemptive reign sets the agenda for our mission.
- Mission is rooted in God’s love, focussed on Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
- Our mission overflows in joy in response to God’s abundant grace.
- The church is the primary model and messenger of God’s love
- The church is the sign of God’s redemptive reign
- Faithful congregations extend and reproduce themselves
- The church expects opposition and is willing to suffer
- Reconciliation and transformation are possible
- The gospel reconciles and transforms creation
- The model of Jesus’ earthly ministry requires that the gospel be presented in a culturally relevant way
- The final victory already belongs to God through Jesus
